      1. When it comes to the LGBTQ community there has always been issues with society embracing them. More recently the focus of our society has been on the Trans community. People without any understanding of what Trans people go through have a tendency to make assumptions about them without any knowledge about them. The article on “Trump and Transgender Rights” by Anya Kamenetz and Cory Turner focuses on the discrimination towards trans people and their inability to use facilities that correlate to their desired gender along with misrepresentative pronouns. The article references the Title IX policy and the Obama administration because they enforced that this is, “the law that prohibits sex discrimination in education, to include transgender students”(Kamenetz & Turner). This inclusion in the Title IX policy aids transgender students by creating a safe space for them at their school; however, recently the Trump administration took back this policy making it a state issue instead of a federal one. This change will give some states the ability to discriminate against students who do not identify as their birth gender.
      2. From an Interactionist perspective one would have to look deeper into the symbols of humanity. Society does not like something they cannot understand or categorize. The American culture has become comfortable in the thought that there is only male and female, and humans must stay within those boundaries otherwise there is disorder and chaos. Due to how society views the word sex, and gender roles, the issue at hand with Title IX comes from a small definition of the word sex within their guidelines. The Obama administration attempted to widen this understanding by including sex as not only the act of sex but also with gender roles. This was done to protect the Trans students on school campuses; however, the new administration going back on this is due to a misunderstanding and closed mind beliefs. This could come from the understanding and interpretation of the word sex.
      3. I personally believe this topic is very important. I am an activist for LGBTQ rights and ran my old colleges LGBTQ club. In my personal opinion whatever doesn’t personally affect you should not be an issue of discussion for you, for example, if you are not LGBTQ then you should not have the right to make decisions for people who are. I have this belief because there is no real way to make the right judgment for those people if you have never walked a mile in their shoes. One thing I would like to have seen in this article is the differences between the different areas of America; like the Midwest, south, north, etc.; and the differences between how students who are trans and are of color are treated. Other than those few things I believe this article was important to keep people in the know about Trans issues.

1.) I think that there are many people that don't agree that their should be transgender bathrooms. Although I do not mind either way, I do not think that this is a major social issue. You are born with the sex that is on your birth certificate, you are either male, female, or you are born with both sexes. It is not a matter of what sex you identify with, you are free to identify with whatever sex you want, but you know physically what sex your are. Public restrooms are there to serve a function, they are not asking you what sex you identify with, but simply, what sex are you? If you have male or female genitals you have a bathroom that was made to facilitate your needs. What we don't have is a bathroom for people who have male and female genitals, and these people actually have a reason to be concerned about what restroom they use. One thing that stood out to me from this blog is, “American culture has become comfortable in the thought that there is only male and female,” because when is comes to the sex of a human there is only male, female, or a combination of both sexes. When you are talking about what sex a person identifies with, there are more variations and that is something personal to you. The law clearly says that no one will be discriminated against on the basis of sex (physical). I chose to comment on this post because I wanted to show a different view on the subject and use my sociological imagination to view it from a different perspective, also because I think its hard for people to share their opinions when it comes to controversial topics mainly because society lately has been very volatile towards people that speak their view on touchy subjects. I think its an interesting topic and it is very relevant because of the Title IX law and how different people interpret it differently and how the trump administration has chose to handle it. I noticed that most of the bloggers in this topic were viewing it with a similar attitude and I thought that it is important to show the other side of how people might feel about this.

2.) Using a conflict perspective, you could view the trump administration and Trump himself as being against the transgender group and using their resources and power to not let them get what they believe they deserve. No matter how much work the transgender group does to try and change this matter, there will always be way more money and influence on Trumps side and plenty of lawyers and lawmakers to keep transgender facilities from becoming a thing.

When talking about the word “transgender,” it is useful to start by analyzing the concept of gender. It is very important to separate sex from gender. Sex is the biological and physical characteristics that label us as male or female. Sex is labeled at birth, usually on the basis of genitalia and/ or chromosomes. Gender is the combination of characteristics, expectations, and roles, which are usually associated with biological sex, often placed on a spectrum between masculine and feminine.
The concept of gender is complicated, because most aspects of gender are social construct, and they vary across time and culture. For example, gender presentation (appearance, clothing, mannerism, and behaviors) and gender roles (social roles, occupational choices) vary depending on culture and era. But, the most important aspect of gender is Gender identity. Gender identity is the self-image we have about our own gender as masculine, feminine or otherwise.
The problem with the article is that it does not address the problem correctly. In order to understand a problem, one must take look at its origin. I can say that both political parties have their own visions, but they lack the strategy. The article says that both Trump and Obama administrations have taken steps to make policies and sign executive orders, but they never talked about the overall plan. The Obama administration sent the “Dear Colleague” letter to school districts, prohibiting sex discrimination in education. The letter stated that “a transgender student should not be treated differently from the way other student of the same gender identity is treated.’ But later, the Trump administration officially revokes that guidance, and gives the states and districts more flexibility on how they choose to accommodate transgender students. The new policy contrasts with the old one. So, as long as the both parties make policies against each other’s policies, there will not be any progress.

When people hear the word "transgender", they automatically think of a nasty comment to say or see these people as being different than those who are straight. Some of us do not understand the things that these people or those who are apart of the LGBTQ go through. Even though, the rate of transgender's are becoming more and more in our society, we still see people being discriminated because of this. Trangender's should feel like they are equally the same and should be apart of us. The article on "Trump and Transgender Rights" is something that a lot of us can argue on. I do not think it is fair for these people to have to feel not accepted even at school. Everyone should be receiving education equally and no one should be turned away just because they do not see themselves as the sex they were born with. Everyone should make the decision themselves as to what they want to be identified as. As humans, we should feel uncomfortable to be honest and voice out our opinions on how we feel comfortable as.

    1. The article, “Trump and Transgender Rights: What Just Happened?” is a very scary reality that we all face concerning our transgender community, whether or not we know someone who is or we ourselves are trans. Title IX which states that, “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal Financial assistance”. Under the Obama administration, school districts were sent guidance letters elucidating Title IX, saying that schools, “must not treat a transgender student differently from the way it treats other students of the same gender identity”, and when the Trump administration repealed the guidance a message was sent to those schools and America that we do not have to comply with the law that protects the trans community from those who would otherwise discriminate against transgender people. The rescindence of the guidance sends the message that the Trans community doesn’t matter and that we don’t have to treat them fairly, that it’s okay to do all those things that Title IX prohibits against. Such a message can potentially fuel senseless hate and small minds, a huge social issue, as it affects those on both sides of the spectrum, those who are in danger of being discriminated against, and those who essentially have an okay from the presidential administration to do so.

    2. From a conflict perspective this rescindence of the Title IX guidance promotes the prejudice belief that the transgender community doesn’t need protection that they don’t fall under the protection of Title IX. The cultural resources that the Trump administration is perpetuating are ones of intolerance through repealing this guidance are creating a status quo that hopefully will not be adopted by the masses. Other cultural resources effected by this move is our education system, besides the obvious that students from school districts in areas that are from more close minded areas could and will likely face prejudice, the schools that choose to use the repealing of the guidance that the Obama administration sent in their favor to get away with breaking the law will show their impressionable students that it’s acceptable to be intolerant to those who are different than themselves. In turn teaching backwards mind sets that progression has been working so hard against.

    3. I liked this blog post because it addressed a current and very serious current event. I also enjoyed that it cleared up any misconceptions and layed out the facts about what is going on. I commented on this topic because it’s an issue that is very sensitive and deals with basic human rights. This is a relevant issue in the field of sociology because it deals with cultural issues and social beliefs and what is acceptable and unacceptable to us as a society. It also is an issue that directly affects a community of people that already receive a lot of discrimination and bigotry from others.

I agree that this is a serious issue that needs more attention brought to it. While people are becoming a little more accepting of the LGBTQ community, they still treat them badly. They treat them as if they are some extraterrestrial being when in reality, they are just human. From a sociological perspective, the words gay, lesbian, bi, etc., really don't have any meaning. They are just words given meaning by us. So, they are just labels that are given to humans like the rest of us, and unfortunately are looked down by many.

The Obama administration informally informed schools that it considers separate treatment of cis and trans kids with binary gender identities unequal, discriminatory, and not in compliance with Title XI. The Trump administration rescinded that guidance, giving states and schools the ability to define gender discrimination against trans students under Title IX. Schools across the country already differed greatly with regards to discrimination against trans students. Since this article came out, Gavin Grimes case was returned to a lower court.

From a conflict perspective, trans and/or gender non-conforming people are a really easy scapegoat from the horrors of capitalism. The wealthy have an interest in distracting those whose surplus labor they steal with issues that don't concern them such as gender nonconformity, abortion, or whether or not Colin Kaepernick stands during the pledge of allegiance. It is much easier to ostracize and harm trans people than it is to reclaim or destroy the property of the wealthy and so a large percentage of the population opts for discrimination against trans people over striking and rioting. (Also, the logical conclusion of the line of thinking that begins with gender essentialisms are bullshit therefore all gender is an identity and not inherent ends with the knowledge that gender exists differently for every person and that no one is actually cis. Thoughts like that are scary to insecure men and women so they do mental gymnastics to deny those truths and use physical/emotional violence to silence those who speak up!)

Pretty good article, doesn't address discrimination of non-binary and intersex people.

1- The article “Trump and Transgender Rights: What Just Happened?" talks about the contrast between two presidency period and decision about the transgender students and their rights. The letter "Dear Colleague" that prohibits sex discrimination in education include transgender students, was sent in last May, from Obama's administration and Trupm's administration cancels it and gives districts more flexibility to treat their transgender students. In result, the American Academy of Pediatrics are concern about the future results because the transgender student are already in risk of violence, bullying, and suicide. The issue with using bathroom or participate in sports for transgender students will be worse if the districts choose to treat those student as minority and force to isolate them in using of unisex bathrooms, lockers or sports. One of the districts most important responsibilities is make learning environment accessible for all students without discrimination, bullying and harassment. People born with chromosome disorder or Sexual Disorder should not suffer from the low and afraid of changing their gender and its consequences. The problem is that government and low should support them and help the society to pass this cultural lag between transgender (because it is new) and the law that has to treat them equal as not transgender person.
2-From the conflict perspective, the article shows the inequality between students and transgender students. Transgender student s cannot access to the bathroom locker-room or sport that they are comfortable to use or participate. The inequality is clearer when it gives space to students to bully and harassment the transgenders. Also for responding to this writer I'm agree with the opinion that the wealthier students and who have more power can go to privet schools and could be treated as a usual student in contrast of working class students that have to participate in public school and challenge themselves in the unequal environment and law for transgenders. For example changing gender in Hollywood stars and celebrities are kind of pride and they talk about it freely. They make money with advertising and playing reality shows whit the title of transgender. They trying support the transgenders and make support groups in contrast of working class people that most of family make it as a privet family issue and try to hide the kid from society.
3-What I think about this blog is that since there are people that want to change their gender, government has to treat them equal as others. I have to say that personally I'm not agree with changing the gender in people. Except people that have biological problems or born with chromosome disorder and gentile problem. In my opinion this transgender problem is because of our pop culture and advertisement. It is because some wealthy people want to make more money and they teach our healthy young ones other fake behavior. But as I mentioned government has to support its people in every gender and transgender. If government wants to prevent, it should come up with better solution and method of prevention.

1-What does it means to be transgender? What are the main problems facing today? Why is a social issue? How does the Trump’s administration rescinding the guidance of Obama’s administration, which supported these people, could affect them?
People whose gender identity differs from the sex the doctor marked on their birth certificate are describe using the terminology of transgender. Although our society has been evolving on this subject there is still a percent of population that disagree with the idea of people being physical comfortable in the way they feel; which is why transgenders are facing a hard reality nowadays. In general, gender dysphoria, high rate of suicide, discrimination, homelessness, are just some of the problems affecting these people. But, how about education and the new Trump’s policies in this field? It’s a reality that the Trump’s administration wanted to give a turn to the Title IX set up for Obama’s administration, which prohibit sex discrimination in education. Now this represents a problem because states and districts can decide on how they accommodate transgender students. Therefore, this would be a good chance to those states who agreed with the new law there is an increase of discrimination, violence and harassments towards those students. The conflict theory could be the one applied in this situation due to, this theory addresses how conflict among groups forms tension and builds the framework for oppression of one group while increasing power and privileges for another.

2-From the conflict theory perspective, it shows the inequality between students and how they are treated according to their gender identity. This theory applied, demonstrate the principal differences among groups, in this case the transgender students and other students. Transgenders students could be deprived of using the bathroom and looker room where they feel comfortable in. It is also how they could be rejected by a girl’ sport team or boys because of the gender nonconformity while others students can patriciate. Another example would be the isolation of a student forced to change in private room, when others students with the same gender identity as this trans identify (males in their corresponded fitting room), use the same fitting room. Moreover, when we observe the situation from a racial and ethnological point of view we could notice that even though all transgenders in general are in the group of discriminated students, still exist differences in how whites and black could be treated. The black transgenders would be even more mistreated only because of their race.

3-Finally, I think that this blog could provoke certain disagreements and reflections at the same time. Besides, is a great way to express our thinking and interact with others.
The reason why I commented on this topic is because I believe in humanity and the equality in our society, because everyone have the right to be whoever they want to be,and whatever make them feel happy in harmony with themselves. Also none one have the right to tell a person where they belong or how they have to look like, no judgment should be done regarding gender identity.
Because sociology study the interaction of individuals in society and how this interaction shapes them this topic is relevant in this filed because demonstrate how one of the conflicts seen in our society, specifically in schools managing this controversial topic.

    1. The article, “Trump and Transgender Rights: What Just Happened?” says that Trump administration rescinded the guidance which prohibits sex discrimination in sex in education. Why is this a social issue? The answer is that the Trump administration which has the strongest political power decided to leave the final decision of Title IX which means the gap of understanding about transgender between states will be occurred. For example, cities such as Los Angeles or New York and rural area such as Iowa and Illinois have different perspective because people who live in cities are much more supportive for transgender than ones in rural areas, so the transgender who live in rural areas are more likely to be prejudice. The transgender students and other young people are deeply suffering since they could not find the way to express the “real” them or to describe their feeling when they are surrounded by opposed people who do not understand the struggle of transgender. Therefore, Trump administration’s decision has antagonized by transgender people, and it will become more uncomfortable for them to live in this society.

    2. From a conflict perspective, there are so many conflict patterns such as the government versus association which protect of transgender rights, and transgender students versus other students at schools. The government controls our society by showing off absolute its authority. Unlike Texas considered that Obama administration overreached and paused Title IX, there are people who think positive way about transgender. Also, in the school, transgender students are suffered by bullying, depression and self-harm. If the government takes decision of the transgender rights, the student need to follow that rules and cannot do anything what they want. Although we have been living in complex community now, as Marx says that all society has to be going through to be developed society, this is the time in the progress of making our society better than the one we are living in.

    3. I choose this blog post because I wish the transgender issue will be understood in good way by everyone. I think this problem is going to be worse if we do not take seriously. I know there are a lot of opinion about how transgender people should be treated, but we are all different so we need to try to understand each other instead of opposing with people who are different than themselves. Our society is made by each individual so that we can develop the society well. Reading this topic was good opportunity for me to get knowledge and to rethink about this transgender issue.

      1) I agree with everything Minami said. It is very difficult to understand transgender people and most people cannot understand the hardships that these people face unless you take a walk in their shoes. It is hard enough to feel a certain way and not be able to explain it to people and on top of this they get treated as if they are not even human and get their rights taken away from them. I believe that people should at least attempt to put themselves in the position of transgender people in order to try to accept them.

      2) From the functionalist perspective, we must understand that to promote equality and social stability it is important to accept every human being and work together for a better society. If everyone goes against each other the society will fall apart and fail to function properly. We must work towards a world where people learn to accept that there are all kinds of human beings and even though we may not agree with everyone's beliefs, we must at least try to coexist.

    1. In this article the rights of americans are being challenged. Regardless of the fact that transgender americans will face a mass amount of discrimination and harassment in society, In May of 2016 the Obama Administration sent the “Dear Colleague” letter to all school districts stating that the Title LX would include transgender students. Transgender students would not be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or subject to discriminiation under any education program or activity receiving financial assistance. Just recently Donald Trump, whom may forever be one of the most infamous presidents off all time, rescinded, or revoked the Obama Administration guidance from Title Lx. Even several months before the removal, the guidance was paused and the responsibility was to be handled at the state and local levels. The problem with the removal of the guidance is that even though Trump stated that the law will not change there is no definite relief for the trans community. Other than the fact that there are schools that could deny the Title Lx because they do not receive financial assistance, the main concern is that the trans community is not being properly taken care of which is why the guidance was removed. In theory Trump opened up a loophole to discriminate trans students because without the guidance schools do not have to adopt these trans people into title Lx and it becomes more of a moral choice.
    2. From the conflict perspective theory, according to the definition, the powerful Donald Trump is oppressing the weak trans community. His influence on society gives power to other powerful groups such as the state to decide what shall be done to the weaker force of people. The goal becomes to limit the opportunity of the trans people, to keep the tradition of oppressing the trans community and, to keep the ideas of Donald Trump alive. In addition, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, “ Transgender children are already at risk of violence, bullying, harassment, and suicide. They may be more prone to depression and engaging in self-harm…” this evidence gives readers a better understanding of what happens when the tansgender group is being oppressed and deliberately causing mental malfunction in transgender people can possibly be seen as a quiet attempt to irradicate this weak group of people.
    3. My honest opinion on this blogspot is that I am aware that readers may not like the content that I wrote or may feel as if there is an error but the fact remains that oppressing people is immoral. Solving this problem can help sociology help the bigger problem of equality around the world.
